WILYARBRUP VINEYARD

Our Wilyabrup vineyard has the ideal number of sun exposure days per year for optimal ripening and is surrounded by sea on three sides on the South West cape of Western Australia, allowing the cooling maritime breezes to keep the fruit cool and add intensity of flavours similar to the great years of the Bordeaux region of France. Thompson Estate and its immediate neighbours in Wilyabrup produce some of Australia’s “icon status” chardonnays and cabernets.

Sustainable and Organic Principles

Our winery and vineyard are blessed by many native flora and fauna species, with the gentle flow of the Wilyabrup brook running through the property giving a true sense of tranquillity.

With this land comes great responsibility to preserve, maintain, and, where possible, improve the biodiversity and environmental integrity of the site. We here at Thompson Estate believe it is our duty and desire to minimise the impact that our winery and vineyard may have on the sustainability of our land, water resources and the wider environment.

Thompson Estate aims at achieving continual environmental improvement through implementing a management system with objectives and targets to minimise our environmental footprint.

With the help of the Freshcare Environmental Codes of Practice we will strive and commit to managing our environmental effects and wastes in compliance with our legal obligations.

During 2021 we are preparing for updated certification with the AWRI’s Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.

At Thompson Estate we are organic in practice however are not certified.

As well as this, we follow selective biodynamic practices in soil enrichment, however are waiting on more scientific evidence to back the 100 year old Rudolf Steiner practices from the 1920's.
